Pictured: Emmental received a new coat of snow the beginning of September on top of the new coat of paint it received this summer. The summer staff paint crew gave extra attention and care in edging the wood (Oxford Brown) design of the building from the white stucco even using stucco paste to cover previous errant brown brush strokes. A job well done and Emmental is looking great!
Changing Seasons
Just as God’s creation experiences changes in the year, the ministry of Rocky Mountain Mennonite Camp changes along with it. With the conclusion of the summer camping season, camp now is offering hospitality to a variety of fall groups including the annual church retreats. The impacts of the coronavirus pandemic continue as we practice the same guidelines in place for the Camp For Families weeks (i.e. wear masks inside, keep 6 feet distance between those not in your household, dining tables 6 feet apart, wash hands frequently, etc.).
Despite the cancellation of many guest groups and the summer youth camping season, camp was grateful for the opportunity to even hold the two weeks of Camps for Families and for the interest/desire (coronavirus cabin fever?) to stay in the ridge accommodations for the months of July & August with only 9 available nights between Eagle’s Nest, Rocky Ridge and Sky-Hi-View ridge accommodations.
This helpful assistance by guest groups and the tremendous response by donors are the “lighthouses” we are needing to see us through this coronavirus storm. Since July 1st, we have received $47,678.75 as part of our “Paying the Legacy Forward” campaign to sustain the RMMC ministry including 10 monthly donors.
We are especially grateful to Mountain States Mennonite Conference and those who contributed toward the “Girl Named Tom” RMMC Benefit Concert as part of the conference assembly which raised $2,475 for Rocky Mountain.

fall quilt retreats
To respond to the realities of the coronavirus guidelines, a 3rd session of the Unfinished Objects (UFO) Quilt Retreat will be offered. To allow for the 6 feet separation of quilting tables and only 1 quilter per table, the maximum number of participants that can be accommodated for all quilter retreats and use of both dining halls is 18. Space is limited but please let us know if you would like to come with our online registration.

edelweiss renovations completed
Camp is excited to have the Edelweiss chalet ready to better serve campers, guests, volunteers or summer staff who need a comfortable place to stay. Improvements made include the addition of a new 1/2 bathroom, replacing/increasing the electrical service, replacing the windows, new flooring, and adding insulation to the walls and ceiling for year around comfort.
Edelweiss was originally built by Frank and Jim Brunk (Frank served as camp director from 1960-1980) in honor of their father Christian Brunk. Frank’s family is honoring his years of service with his family to Rocky Mountain by funding the renovation of the facility improvements.
Pennsylvania volunteers ready to install the next Structural Insulated Panel (SIP’s) on Edelweiss which were selected for their benefits of insulation, structural strength, and efficiency of installation.
Pictured: Camp was delighted to welcome a group of young adults (listed in Who’s Been Helping) all the way from Lancaster PA. They accomplished a variety of tasks including a new roof on Edelweiss, refinishing the wood benches from the ridge cabins and around the DH/Lodge along with filling the construction dumpster by clearing out items from Staffville.

you’ve been spotted
While not with an RMMC labeled item as requested, we took a second look and spotted a Yellow Bellied Marmot in the rock pile by the Nature Center. Far from home above tree line, camp apparently offers a place of retreat to visiting marmots too.
